Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru opened two markets along the forthcoming dual carriageway between Kenol-Sagana-Marua on Thursday.
The two markets, Kibingoti and Sagana, target passengers who pull over to buy agricultural products along the busy highway.
Information from the Department of Trade of the County shows that about 2,000 purchasers a day are generated by the two markets.
Ms Waiguru said that she was honouring her campaign promises to local traders when launching the markets.
The potential of the two markets is about 500 traders each. Each of the two could initially serve 100 traders. The markets are linked to electricity and have great amenities for sanitation.
Sagana and Kibingoti add to 11 the number of markets that the administration of Governor Waiguru has built over the last three years.
Others include Makutano, Wang’uru, kagumo, Kiamutugu, Kutus, Kerugoya, Kianyaga, the market for fresh produce in Kagio and the market for clothing in Kagio.
