Kenya suspends all flights to and from Somalia

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority issued a notice to airmen on Tuesday suspending all air travel to and from Somalia.
The Kenyan government did not provide any justifications for the action in the notice.

The ban comes just days after Qatar brokered a deal that saw Mogadishu and Nairobi restore diplomatic ties.
Following Qatari mediation led by Emir Sheikh Tamim Al Than, Somalia and Kenya restored diplomatic relations after five months.

The Somalia Ministry of Information announced the resumption of relations “in the interests of good neighbourliness.”

The two governments agreed to maintain friendly relations based on the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality, mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence, according to the statement.
Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed its delight at the development, saying it looks forward to the Somali authorities continuing to normalize relations.
